Stacksmith #2: The Graph Supports Solana with Substreams
Chainlink BUILD, MetaMask Grants, and a Truffle vs. Hardhat showdown
Hello You Beautiful Builders!
Just a quick heads-up… I’ve rebranded everything related to this newsletter as Stacksmith.
Thanks!
This Week’s Top News
🌊 The Graph Solana Substreams
The Graph Foundation announces support for Solana with substreams, allowing Solana developers to build with The Graph to extract and interpret on-chain data from Solana’s mainnet-beta to feed their dApps. Developed by StreamingFast, a core developer in The Graph ecosystem, substreams allow for extremely fast historical processing. Providing support with substreams is the first step to bringing full subgraph support to Solana.

🏗️ Chainlink BUILD Program
As part of its Economics 2.0 release, Chainlink is launching the Chainlink BUILD program to accelerate the growth of new and pre-revenue projects within the Chainlink ecosystem. Chainlink BUILD enables projects to integrate Chainlink services by providing enhanced access to technical support in exchange for commitments of network fees and other incentives.

💰 MetaMask Grants DAO
ConsenSys is launching the MetaMask Grants DAO, an employee-led, ConsenSys-funded program with an annual budget of $2.4M, that will issue grants to any developer outside of ConsenSys for projects that add value to the MetaMask ecosystem.

🥊 Truffle vs. Hardhat
There are two dominant development environments for WEb3 apps today: Truffle and Hardhat (with other new players like Foundry and Tenderly). By breaking down the difference between Ethereum’s top development environments you can make an informed choice of a development environment for building your next dApp. Yes… this is a post from Truffle, but it does a fair, unbiased comparison

🧱 Optimism OP Stack
The next evolution of Optimism’s scalability architecture is the OP Stack, a modular, open-source blueprint for highly scalable, highly interoperable blockchains. Each layer of the OP Stack is a well-defined API, to be filled by a module for that layer. You can easily modify existing modules or create your own entirely new modules to fill the needs of whatever application you’re building.
📜 Solidity Template
This is a modern Solidity template for Ethereum smart contracts combining two powerful frameworks: Foundry (Unit tests written in Solidity) and Hardhat ( Integration tests written in Typescript). On-chain developers that call your contracts can refer to the Unit Test files to see the expected usage in Solidity while off-chain. UI developers can refer to your Integration Test files to see the expected usage in JavaScript/TypeScript and Ethers.js.
🧰 Elrond rebrands as MultiversX
Blockchain technology developer Elrond announced is it moving forward under the new name MultiversX with the introduction of three new metaverse-focused development products:
xFabric is a sovereign blockchain module that can host core blockchain applications.
xPortal is promoted as the portal to the Metaverse.
xWorlds is a virtual world creation engine.
